Microchipping
Microchipping in animals is a pet identification system with a unique identification code. The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice and is implanted between the shoulder blades of your pet. There is a national database system that can be accessed by participating animal shelters and veterinary clinics. The identification number is called into the microchip database system and the pet owner is notified when their animal is located.
There is a one-time activation fee when the animal is microchipped. An annual fee is charged for the service by HomeAgain. The service can be placed on hold and reactivated at any time. It is the owners responsibility to update their personal information (phone number, address, e-mail address, etc.) with the microchip distributor if it changes.
Currently, we are using the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service. The Animal Rescue League and other veterinarians in Des Moines are able to scan this microchip.
